Religious Education

The Essex Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education can be accessed by Clicking here

Religious Education intent: Pupils have a knowledge of the world’s major religions and their relevance in today’s society. They understand and respect that people may have different religious views [or none] to their own.

We follow the Saffron academy trust (SAT) approved RE scheme to teach RE across our school.

We follow the below coverage map to make sure we teach about a number of religions, and cover all 3 RE lenses: theology, philosophy and human & social science.

Religious Education in Church of England Schools - A Statement of Entitlement (2019):

The Church of England’s Statement of Entitlement is a guidance document from the National Society for Education outlining the entitlement of all pupils in Church schools to high-quality Religious Education (RE). It ensures that RE enables children to flourish, with at least 50% of curriculum time dedicated to Christianity, exploring it alongside other faiths through theology, philosophy, and social science. Parents/carers right to withdraw their child from RE

Parents have the right to choose whether or not to withdraw their child from RE without influence from the school, although a school should ensure parents or carers are informed of this right and are aware of the educational objectives and content of the RE syllabus. In this way, parents can make an informed decision. Where parents have requested that their child is withdrawn, their right must be respected, and where RE is integrated in the curriculum, the school will need to discuss the arrangements with the parents or carers to explore how the child’s withdrawal can be best accommodated. If pupils are withdrawn from RE, schools have a duty to supervise them, though not to provide additional teaching or to incur extra cost. Pupils will usually remain on school premises.
