Appropriate footwear at school?25 November 2025 (by admin) |
Dear Families,
We have noticed on days without P.E. some children are not wearing the below shoe types in black. If you want only one pair of shoes for your child to wear at school - then select a pair of black trainers to meet all requirements.
Here are some key messages from our School Uniform policy to assist you.
P.E. days:
• Trainers (comfortable for full day of wear, protective for active feet & no lights or other distracting features)
• Black plimsolls (optional footwear, for indoor PE lessons only, as an alternative to bare feet)
Days without P.E:
• Black school shoes/ black trainers / black ankle boots (no heels)
Here is further details as in the policy:
School uniform footwear: We want our children’s feet to be healthy, therefore, all pupils must wear well-fitting shoes with an appropriate low heel. Appropriate school uniform footwear includes: black school shoes, black trainers and black ankle boots (no heels). Logos on school uniform footwear ideally will be in black (small and inconspicuous logos will be acceptable).
P.E. Trainers: To support parents/carers financially, we recognise the benefits of children having one pair of trainers for combined use at home and for School P.E. days. Therefore, we do not require P.E. trainers to be black or plain in design in the same way as shoes worn as part of school uniform. However, trainers must still be suitable for physical education so must be comfortable for full day wear, protective for active feet/use in games/sports and have no parts that could harm children/distract children from learning, such as lights.
Boots explained: Boots above the ankle are NOT allowed. On bad weather days if your child wears wellington/snow boots to school they must remember to bring their school shoes to change into. Please note that Reception class children are asked to leave a pair of wellington boots at school.
With kind regards,
Coopersale and Theydon Garnon C.E. Primary School
